Who controls your money?

July 19, 2016

One of the first things I do with my clients is have them cancel all of their automatic drafts and replace them with automatic bill-pay. Why? It’s your valuable money. Having someone come into your account and take money gives them your power. However, gathering your money and consciously sending it forward is you owning your power.

To clarify, an auto-draft is when a company uses your banking information to come in and draft payments directly and automatically from your account. Auto-bill-pay is when you, the payer, set up regular payments through your bank. Your money is then sent out to the company directly and automatically from you.

Just thinking about allowing businesses to reach into your bank account and take out money actually gives me the heeby-jeebys. It’s your money. There is value, energy, and power in your money. You can feel that.

Why would you sit idly by and let the power and value of your money be manipulated according to what others are doing? Wouldn’t you rather harness the energy of your money and wield its power to bring priceless value back to you?

If you’re opting for the latter, you’re going to need to engage with your money and step into the responsibilities it requires.

Now, I get it. Auto-draft seems great. It’s easy, it prevents costly mistakes, and letting others do things for you is ignorantly blissful. While ignorance may be bliss, we all know knowledge advances power. When you take responsibility for your money and your commitments, you will know your due dates. You will be connected with the details of each transaction. You know your money was handled appropriately. Taking responsibility breeds empowerment.

More than this, when someone else comes in and withdraws your money, they’re in power to push your money and you around. When you organize your money and send it out, you are actively harnessing and channeling your money’s energy. Canceling your auto drafts and setting up auto bill pay is a way for you to take charge of your money and your life. Are you ready?
